This started as a poem I wrote in a workshop given by Naomi Shihab Nye, based on her "New Combinations: Nouns and Verbs" exercise in Wingbeats: Exercises and Practice in Poetry.

She brought with her two fancy shopping bags that held nouns and verbs cut out of magazines. We chose three of each, then were told to make sentences using any combination, then turn one or more sentences into a poem. Some people got cool combos, like scissors, acrobat, and braid. My nouns were rather trite: moon, love, passion. My verbs: wear, smoking, ride.

I didn't write my workshop poem as a haiku, but through the magic of editing, it became one.
